These Journées des Systèmes de Référence et de la Rotation Terrestre" were co-organized by the Observatoire de Paris and the Universidad de Alicante, and took place at the Campus of the University of Alicante, Spain, from September 25 to 27, 2017. One of its main motivations was trying to resume, or recovering somehow, the series of Journées des Systèmes de Référence spatio-temporels" (JSR), which had been discontinued in 2014. The JSR initiated in 1988 at the Paris Observatoire by Suzanne Débarbat, and consolidated shortly under the masterly leadership of Nicole Capitaine. The Journées 2017 were supported by the International Astronomical Union (IAU) and the International Association of Geodesy (IAG) alike the former JSR. In the interest of enhancing the interactions between Astronomy and Geodesy the Journées 2017 were devoted to the study of the space-time celestial and terrestrial reference systems and their evolution with time, with the emphasis on the rotation of the Earth. Under the sub-title ``Furthering our knowledge of Earth Rotation", this meeting addressed the challenges brought by our demanding accuracy requirements on the modeling and prediction of the Earth's rotation, and the realizations of the Reference Systems.
