Ovid was the most widely read poet in his lifetime, and greatly influenced the authors of the imperial period, including the Christians. And although the elegies of Tristia were not as popular as the Metamorphoses or the art of loving, this poetry of banishment became a reference for romantic writers such as Byron, Shelley or Pushkin, painters such as Delacroix or contemporary authors, such as Vicent Andrés Estellés.
